Part of Modula, an ongoing series of geometric forms built for modular variation

Six concentric hexagons, nested one inside the next, pull the eye toward a single point at center. No circle, no soft curve anywhere in the piece, every edge is straight, every turn is sharp, and yet the cumulative effect is anything but rigid. Repetition does what curvature usually does: it creates motion out of a shape that, taken alone, is completely static.

This is the most purely optical of the Modula forms. The hexagon is one of geometry’s most stable shapes, six equal sides, perfect symmetry, but stack enough of them inside one another and stability tips into vibration. The lines seem to pulse, recede, and advance depending on how long you look, an effect built entirely from spacing and repetition, with no actual movement anywhere on the page.

Neptune Blue holds the field, deep and cool. Mars Red traces each ring with real heat, the highest-contrast pairing this form has taken on, warm against cool with nothing in between. The optical pull is sharper here than in any other colorway: the red rings seem to lift off the blue ground entirely, hovering rather than resting, so the hexagons read almost three-dimensional at a glance.

Hand-pulled, one layer at a time, on 250gsm Lenox 100, printed at the MGC Community Print Studio at PowerHouse Arts in Brooklyn. No two pulls of a silkscreen are ever pixel-identical, each one carries its own trace of the hand that pulled it.
