Part of Modula, an ongoing series of geometric forms built for modular variation
Four quadrants, four different logics. A full circle sits alone in the upper left, the only shape in the composition with no edge touching the frame. Beside it, a quarter-circle carves into the corner. Below, two more curves split the lower half: one swelling outward into a dome, one cutting a sharp diagonal arc. Same square, same grid, four unrelated gestures.
That’s the tension that drives the piece. A strict quadrant structure usually promises repetition, here it delivers variation instead. Each shape obeys the grid’s logic (stay inside your quarter, touch the frame or don’t) while refusing to repeat the shape beside it. The circle is complete and self-contained; the others are all partial, all cut off by an edge they can’t escape. It’s order with just enough disobedience to stay interesting.
Neptune Blue grounds the piece, deep, cool, architectural. Galactic Gold Yellow carries every shape with real presence, advancing against the blue rather than resting on it. It’s the clearest, highest-contrast version of this form in the series: no shared temperature between field and figure, so each quadrant reads instantly, distinct and complete, before the eye moves to the next.
Hand-pulled, one layer at a time, on 250gsm Lenox 100, printed at the MGC Community Print Studio at PowerHouse Arts in Brooklyn. No two pulls of a silkscreen are ever pixel-identical, each one carries its own trace of the hand that pulled it.
