Part of Modula, an ongoing series of geometric forms built for modular variation

The form starts with a curve and never quite lets go of it. A rounded base swells into a solid, self-contained shape, then breaks, a thin line peels off and climbs, straightens into a hard right angle, and lands as a flat architectural block stacked beside it. One gesture, two behaviors: soft where it begins, rigid where it resolves.

That contrast is the whole composition. Nothing here is symmetrical, and nothing needs to be, the weight of the rounded form on the left balances the angularity of the block on the right, the way a single scale can hold two very different objects in equilibrium. It reads as structure, almost mechanical, but the curve keeps it from ever feeling cold.

This one breaks from the rest of the palette entirely. Instead of printing onto white stock, the form is pulled onto a fuchsia paper, vivid, saturated, unlike anything else in the series, with a dense, opaque light blue ink carrying the shape. The ink itself is one of the specialty formulations from the MGC print shop, a more refined mix than the standard HSA line, and it shows: flat, even coverage with none of the texture variation seen elsewhere in Modula. The result is a pairing with real voltage, pink and blue sitting at a saturation level the rest of the series doesn’t reach.

Hand-pulled, one layer at a time, on 250gsm fuchsia stock, printed at the MGC Community Print Studio at PowerHouse Arts in Brooklyn.
