Eruption
Acrylic marker on wood panel, 10" x 10" — Rene Juan de la Cruz
This is what happy chaos looks like when it has been building for decades and finally gets a ten inch square of wood to erupt onto. Every character in the artist's subconscious vocabulary showed up at once, crowned heads, grinning jaws, X-eyes that are real eyes looking back at you, ghost-like dudes, spike-crowned beings, figures on wheels, orbits wrapping into faces, spiral forms spinning in place. Nobody left. Nobody was quiet. The raw wood grain bleeds through everywhere underneath it all, the only ground this world stands on.
But look longer. Hidden inside the M-crowns, tucked within the larger forms, embedded in the chaos, there are characters watching. Still. Patient. Eyes peeking through the noise at you while everything around them erupts. The surface screams. The watchers say nothing.
Made in 2021. That is the real composition. The eruption you see immediately. The witnesses you find slowly.
